Both print 80 mm receipts at up to 500 mm/s and connect by USB, Ethernet and serial. The difference is the slip printer: the TM-H6000VI adds a 9-pin impact printer for forms, slips and multi-part documents, while the TM-T88VII prints receipts only and is far smaller and lighter. If you don't print on single sheets, the TM-T88VII is the simpler choice. Our versions: TM-H6000VI (USB, Ethernet, serial) and TM-T88VII (USB, Ethernet, serial).

Figures from Epson's TM-H6000VI and TM-T88VII technical reference guides, the TM-H6000VI User's Manual and Epson product pages; speeds are maximums. Epson's technical reference guide sets the TM-H6000VI to 400 or 450 mm/s by default, depending on version (Epson Europe's product page says 300 mm/s); you can change it in the TM-H6000VI Utility.

    Choose the TM-H6000VI if
    • You print slips, forms or documents with copies on single sheets as well as receipts
    • You want one printer at the counter instead of a receipt printer and a separate slip printer
    • You are replacing an older TM-H6000: Epson documents the switch from the TM-H6000V, and the TM-H6000VI can identify itself as a TM-H6000IV for older software
    Choose the TM-T88VII if
    • You only print receipts
    • Counter space is tight: it needs about half the space and weighs 1.7 kg
    • You want to use 58 mm rolls
    • You prefer no ribbon to replace

    What both printers share

Both use the same 80 mm thermal rolls and the same PS-190 power supply, speak Epson ESC/POS and have their own EPSON Advanced Printer Driver 6 (APD6) package for Windows. The drawer kick connector is wired the same way, so the same 24 V cash drawer works on either; see Connect a cash drawer. Epson lists all models of both printers under the EU Radio Equipment Directive, so new units may only accept encrypted network printing by default.

    Setting up and running costs

Receipts need nothing but paper on either printer. The TM-H6000VI also needs ERC-32 ribbon cartridges for slip printing; Epson America rates one at up to 4 million characters. Setup steps are in the TM-H6000VI setup guide and the TM-T88VII setup guide. More guides for each model: TM-H6000VI and TM-T88VII.

    Frequently asked questions

Can the TM-T88VII print on slips or A4 forms?

No. The TM-T88VII prints on thermal roll paper only. For single sheets up to 230 × 297 mm you need a hybrid printer such as the TM-H6000VI.

Is the TM-H6000VI slower for receipts?

No. Epson rates both at up to 500 mm/s for receipts. The TM-H6000VI's default speed setting is lower, 400 or 450 mm/s depending on version, and can be raised in the TM-H6000VI Utility.

Can the TM-H6000VI C31CL25102 read cheques?

No. Our version has no MICR reader. Epson offers separate TM-H6000VI versions with MICR.

Do both printers use the same receipt paper?

Yes. Both take 80 mm thermal rolls up to 83 mm in diameter.
