The TC22 is the slim, light entry model. The TC53e adds a brighter screen, bigger batteries, longer scan range, tougher ratings and Android support up to 18.
In this guide
The TC22 and the TC53e look alike: both are 6-inch Android touch computers with two scan buttons and a removable battery. Zebra positions the TC22 as a cost-effective device for small and mid-size businesses, while the TC53e belongs to the rugged TC5 series. The TC53e has a brighter screen that also works when wet, larger batteries, a longer-reaching standard scan engine, tougher drop and cold ratings and Android support for longer. The TC22 is slimmer and lighter.

- Barcodes are scanned within arm's reach
- Staff prefer a slim, light device in the pocket
- You are equipping a small team and want an entry-level Zebra device
- Staff work full shifts and need the larger 4,680 or 7,000 mAh battery
- The device is used in cold rooms or in the wet
- Devices are dropped often, for example in logistics
- You plan to use the devices for many years and want updates up to Android 18
- You want Wi-Fi 6E, which Zebra's TC22 spec sheet ties to an extra licence
Scanning and screen in daily use
Both models scan through Zebra DataWedge, so the setup is identical, see the DataWedge setup guide. The difference is reach. With its standard engine, the TC53e reads a 20 mil Code 39 barcode at up to about 92 cm, the TC22 at up to 66 cm. Both are available with the SE55, which reaches labels on high shelves.
The TC53e screen is brighter and keeps working with water droplets on the glass. It also accepts a conductive stylus. Zebra's spec sheet lists the TC22 for bare or lightly gloved fingers; both models have a Glove and Finger touch panel mode.
Batteries and cradles are not shared
The two families use different batteries and cradles. The TC22 uses 3,800 and 5,200 mAh batteries and CRD-TC2L cradles; the TC53e uses 4,680 and 7,000 mAh batteries and CRD-NGTC5 cradles. The USB-C charge cable (CBL-TC5X-USBC2A-01) and the power supplies have the same part numbers. Both ranges include a rugged boot and a trigger handle. If you already run one family, stay with it to keep your chargers and spare batteries.

Frequently asked questions
Is the TC53e better than the TC22?
For demanding work, yes: brighter screen, larger batteries, longer standard scan range, tougher drop and cold ratings and Android support up to version 18. The TC22 is lighter and slimmer and covers everyday indoor tasks.
Can I use TC22 batteries or cradles with the TC53e?
No. They use different batteries and cradles. The Zebra USB-C charge cable and the power supplies are listed for both.
Does the TC22 support Wi-Fi 6E?
Yes, but Zebra's spec sheet says Wi-Fi 6E on the TC22 needs the Mobility DNA Enterprise License. The TC53e spec sheet lists Wi-Fi 6E without that note.
