Honeywell Voyager 1470g vs 1472g: corded or cordless?
Same imager and settings, different freedom: the 1470g is corded, the 1472g adds Bluetooth, a battery and a charge and communication base.
In this guide
The Voyager XP 1470g and 1472g use the same imager, read the same 1D and 2D bar codes at the same distances, and share their programming bar codes. The difference is the cable. Choose the 1470g for a fixed till or desk where the scanner stays at the counter. Choose the 1472g when staff need to scan away from the PC, or when the scanner should connect to a tablet or phone by Bluetooth.

Figures from Honeywell's Voyager XP 1470g and 1472g data sheets and the 147X accessories guide. Battery and range figures depend on use and surroundings.
- The scanner stays at one till, desk or packing bench
- Items come to the scanner, not the other way round
- You want no battery to charge or replace
- You want the longer five-year Honeywell warranty
- Staff scan bulky items in a trolley, on a pallet or on a shelf
- You want no cable across the counter
- The scanner should work with a tablet or phone by Bluetooth
- Scanning should continue briefly out of range, using batch mode
What both scanners share
Both models are covered by one Honeywell User Guide, the Voyager 147X Series User Guide, so settings use the same programming bar codes. Our guides therefore work for both: setup, keyboard country and Enter or Tab suffix and troubleshooting.
Both read printed bar codes and codes on phone screens, act as a USB keyboard without a driver, and are configured with Honeywell's EZConfig for Scanning. The "2D" in the part number is important: Honeywell states that only the 2D versions read PDF417 and 2D codes such as QR.
What to know about the 1472g base
The CCB01-010BT-V1N base charges the scanner, receives its Bluetooth data and passes it to the PC by cable. By default it links one scanner at a time: the last scanner placed in it takes over. While the scanner is linked, the base stores the settings.
The base can run on power from the USB cable alone, but charging is slower: Honeywell quotes 7 hours by USB and 4 hours with an external 5 V, 1 A power supply. Accessories such as a spare BAT-SCN01A battery, a four-bay battery charger and Bluetooth access points are listed in Honeywell's Voyager XP 1470g and 1472g accessories guide.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Voyager 1472g scan better than the 1470g?
No. Both use the same 1040 × 720 imager, and Honeywell quotes the same read ranges. The 1472g adds Bluetooth and a battery.
Can the Voyager 1472g work without its base?
Yes. It can pair directly with a PC, tablet or phone as a Bluetooth keyboard. You still need the base, or a Honeywell battery charger for spare batteries, to charge it.
How long does the 1472g battery last?
Honeywell quotes up to 28 hours, or up to 100,000 scans, per charge at one scan per second.
Are the Voyager 1470g and 1472g waterproof?
No. Both are rated IP52, which means protection against dust and dripping water, not immersion.
